About Us

We are a 501(c)(3) not for profit corporation dedicated to helping the community members of Lamar County, Alabama by providing financial aid for its citizens to spay and neuter their pets and reducing the stray and unwanted animal population in our area.

Unfortunately we do not have a physical location and Lamar County doesn't have an animal shelter, so please contact us to report any stray, neglected, or unwanted animals. We must have a plan in place to house them prior to them being brought in or picked up. Our contact information is provided at the bottom of the page.

We do not staff a veterinarian and are volunteer ran, so we cannot take severely injured or sick animals, but we do have a list of contacts for these types of reports on our Contacts page.

Think we might have your missing pet?

We do NOT pick up animals, however we do have animals that are brought to us occasionally by law enforcement or other community members. If you think we may have your missing pet, you can check the available animals section of this page and/or email a photo of your missing pet to info@lchspaws-al.org

NOTE:  All incoming animals are placed on a state mandated seven (7) day stray hold to allow the owner time to reclaim them. Proof of ownership (and a $25 redemption fee per animal will be required if we have the animal in our care for more than 24 hours). If the pet(s) is not claimed and picked up within 7 days of us receiving it and arrangements have not been made and agreed to by us to hold it for you longer, we will consider it abandoned and property of Lamar County Humane Society. We do scan all pets for a microchip at intake, if none is found we give them one, you're pet's microchip we provide will be registered to you at the time of redemption. If your pet is microchipped, we contact the microchip company to get your contact information to let you know we have your animal, this is why it's important to make sure your pet's microchip is registered and the information is up to date.

Be aware that all incoming animals receive age appropriate vaccines as recommended by veterinarians at intake. We also provide any other treatments/care we feel necessary to ensure the health and safety of all animals in our care and our volunteer staff.
